After conducting an April blitz on weed control, City of Victor Harbor has called for local gardeners to look out for the Gazania.
Council crews undertook weed control activities between the Inman River Estuary and Causeway as part of ongoing efforts to prevent weeds from dominating remnant dune vegetation and infesting open spaces.
Gazania, also known as African Daisy, is a particular local problem
It is a declared weed, originally from South Africa, that quickly spreads rapidly in the mild coastal climate.
When Gazanias are found in gardens or on the nature strip, they should be carefully removed and put in the green organics bin.
They should not be dumped or transported anywhere and are best replaced with local native species.
